Work Continues in Spite of the Rain

The contractors have continued installing the red iron on the classrooms even though the rain has made installation difficult because the heavy equipment cuts deep ruts in the ground as they move around the building. Also, they have been able to install some of the french drains around the gym portion of the building. There are 14 french drains under and around the gym that must be installed. With the heavy rain today and tonight that is expected, the work will be delayed for a few more days before they can begin at full speed.

The contractor and sub-contractors have done an excellent job of managing some difficult conditions created by the weather and made progess in spite of the rain. Mike Caine with GAG Builders has many years experience in construction and is doing a great job keeping things moving and organizing the project. We are fortunate to have him managing the construction and we are also fortunate to have Bob Bailey as the architect who has many years of experience building schools in Arkansas and surrounding states.

Good Weather Equals Good Progress

The contractors have made good progress the last few days since the weather has improved. They are pouring 100 yards in the slab on the classroom section and have plans to pour another 150 yards of concrete tomorrow. Also, the workers are starting to put up the red iron in the classroom section. The pictures are of the slab being poured and the first piece of red iron as it is being erected.

Workers Continue In The Cold

The weather was not very cooperative the last few days but the workers have continued to make progress on the preparation for the floors of the building. If the weather permits, it is still expected they may be able to put up some of the red iron next week.

Exterior Walls

The contractors have erected a small sample of the exterior walls of the building. This is a picture of the how the exterior of the building will look.

Progress Again

The workers were on the job until midnight last night finishing up the pour on the classroom section north of the technology department of the building. Work also continues on the slab in the storage area of the gym/PE section on the lower level. They are expecting to begin the erection of the superstructure (red iron) as early as next tuesday on the agriculture section of the building if the weather allows.

New Expected Completion Date

Because of all the bad weather, the contractors have requested an additional 20 day extension to the expected completion date. This will make the expected completion day approximately a year from now. This date is still well under the time given for completion in the contract.
