Gym Floor Poured

Brown Construction completed the pour on the gymnasium floor yesterday. They started the process at 4 a.m. and finsished later in the afternoon. There were 300 yards of concrete in the floor not counting the area under the seats or the dressing room/office areas. They are expecting to start with the red iron on the gym this next week. Also, the contractors have installed more roof metal on the science/math area and office areas. I will post pictures of the gym floor as soon as possible.

Concrete/Red Iron

Mike Caine with GAG Construction estimates that 50% of the red iron has been installed on the building. Also, approximately 50% of the concrete for the slabs have been poured. The good weather has allowed them to make great progress. They have been laying interior walls and exterior walls and installing the door frames. Also, the sub contractor has made good progress installing the red iron as soon as the slabs have hardened enough for them to get on them. They have the footers poured for the student union area and plan to pour the slab for it in a few days. You may remember, this is the area that has the high vaulted ceiling and this is where the students will stay in and socialize as well as the cafeteria early in the mornings when they first arrive at school.

On the other end of the building, they are preparing the gym floor and dressing rooms floors for the slabs to be poured. They are also finishing the process of installing the french drains around the lower level of the gymnasium.

The contractor discourages people from driving onto the site because of limited space and safety concerns and the strict regulations of OSHA, but if you would like to see the process, contact Mr. Cooper at the school. We are on the site almost every day and would be happy to have you ride along to see the building. Hard hats and safety checks are now required while you are on the building site.

Aerial View

The aerial view shows the progress the workers have made. You can see the front parking lot is finished except for landscaping around the perimeter and in the islands. The building on the right is the agri building and immediately to the left of it is the technolgy section. You can see the red iron on the office area and one half of the math/science section toward the back. The gymnasium is the large building at the top left of the picture. All these sections and the cafeteria will be connected when the building is completed. The road at the top left is the entrance from the airport road. The other entrance is not visible but it is in the lower right section of the picture. You can double click the picture to enlarge it.

Science/Gym/Storm Shelter

John Brown Construction has poured the second half of the science department slab and they have finished pouring the slab under the seating areas of the gymnasium. The first picture shows the workers finishing the slab under the storm shelter area and the second picture shows the slab on the second half of the science section.
